Ingredients:
- 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 and 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- For Chocolate Buttercream:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
Set a muffin tin with cupcake liners and preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit 175 degrees Celsius
Mix the baking powder, salt, and flour in a medium-sized bowl
Put aside
Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar in a separate bowl until they become light and fluffy
One egg at a time, adding and beating thoroughly after each addition
Add the vanilla extract and stir
Add the dry ingredients mixture to the wet ingredients gradually, starting and ending with the dry ingredients and alternating with the milk
Blend until barely combined
Spoon about two thirds of the cupcake batter into each cupcake liner
A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean after baking for 18 to 20 minutes in a preheated oven
Take out of the oven and leave on a wire rack to cool completely
Beat the softened butter until it becomes creamy and pale in color for the Chocolate Buttercream
Add the milk, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and a small amount of salt
Beat until well combined and smooth
Pipe or spread the chocolate buttercream onto the cupcakes after they have completely cooled
